Handling of Filters

Filter Handling, Storage, Maintenance and Replacement SOP

Handling and Storage

  • Handle filter cartons gently at all times.

  • Keep cartons upright as marked with ‘This Side Up’.

  • Store in a clean, dry indoor area—away from direct sunlight and moisture.

  • Maintain storage conditions below 45°C temperature and 70% relative humidity to prevent media degradation.

  • Stack cartons only on clean, flat surfacesdo not stack more than 3 boxes high.

  • Do not place heavy items on cartons or stand/sit on them.

  • Avoid dropping or dragging boxes—filters are delicate.

  • Follow FIFO (First In, First Out) principle to ensure shelf-life compliance.

  • Avoid storage in open or chemical exposure zones.

Installation

  • Inspect the installation site and filter holding frame before starting.

  • Confirm the correct filter type and airflow direction before placement.

  • Install gently—do not bend, squeeze, or damage the filter media.

  • Tighten locking clips or gaskets uniformly to prevent leakages.

  • Ensure gasket forms a proper seal to eliminate bypass air.

Cleaning & Maintenance

(Pre and Fine Filters Only)

  • Use a manometer or magnehelic gauge to check pressure drop before cleaning.

  • Remove filters carefully and shift to a clean maintenance area.

  • Clean using compressed air (≤2 bar) from the clean air side to dislodge dust.

  • If washable:

    • Use mild detergent and rinse with clean water.

    • Dry filters in a shaded, clean environment (max 45°C) for 1–2 hours.

  • Do not reuse filters until they are fully dry and confirmed free of damage.

Cleaning Frequency

Filter Type

Recommended Cleaning Interval

Pre-Filters

Every 7 ± 2 days or based on pressure drop

Fine Filters

Every 15 ± 2 days or as per pressure trend

Always prioritize pressure drop as the primary indicator for cleaning frequency.

HEPA and Minipleat Filters – Do Not Clean

  • Do not wash, clean, or repair HEPA filters.

  • Replace immediately if pressure drop exceeds the final limit or if the filter fails integrity (DOP) tests.

  • During inspection:

    • Check for side leaks—replace gaskets/seals using approved silicone if required.

    • Do not disturb the media or pleats.

Filter Replacement Guidelines

Filter Type

Replacement Schedule

Pre/Fine Filters

Annually ±15 days, or when cleaning is ineffective

HEPA Filters

Annually ±15 days, or immediately if failed in DOP/integrity test

  • Always perform replacements during non-operational hours.

  • Use only compatible filters as per the system specification.

Disposal / Scrappage

  • Do not reuse failed HEPA filters—scrap immediately.

  • Dispose of used pre- and fine filters in a safe, contamination-free manner.

  • Follow local environmental and safety guidelines for disposal of used or contaminated filters.
